The Holiday season is the time of year when thoughts of diets and bikinis go out the window replaced by thoughts of parties, cocktails, shopping and sugary treats . Most start with the candy binging, then move on to stuffing their faces with turkey and carbs, followed by loading up on cookies & eggnog in December- you would think THAT WOULD BE ENOUGH. Nope! The Holiday season is also probably the most busy time of year, from scrambling for presents, ending the corporate calendar, and preparing for travel most of us end up eating on the go more than ever during the holiday months. Thankfully, the fast food franchises have come to our rescue yet again with their limited holiday menus. So just in time for that LAST MINUTE SHOPPING we’ve decided to review some of the limited time only fast food items to best add to the calorie killer we call the holidays.
While Starbucks goes about their merry business tearing down historical landmarks in cities nationwide to regurgitate their corporate brand on every corner the eye can see, its good to see they still take time to celebrate the holidays. Aside from its annual Holiday Brew crack – I mean coffee, they also have some Holiday bites to fulfill their caffeine addicts every need while attaining their high. So if you are in a Starbuck during the holiday season, which I am sure you will be, we recommend the Holiday Turkey Panini! Get this puppy heated up while your on the go and you will love it! It is a focaccia roll with turkey breast, warm gravy, and a cranberry cornbread stuffing that will have you coming back for more during your holiday shopping.
Taco Bell has really stepped it up in the 2014 year. Introducing their new breakfast menu, and bringing pure joy to the world with the waffle taco, am crunchwraps, cinnabon delights, and the list goes on- this menu is a hangover dream come true. For the Holidays, Taco Bell of course brought their A- game with an offering fast food buffs who love dipping and sauces; the Rolled Chicken Tacos! All I can say is this- AMAZING! Rolled Chicken Tacos are crispy tacos rolled up with marinated all-white-meat shredded chicken and come with a choice of 5 flavorful dipping sauces: New Spicy Ranch, Nacho Cheese, Premium Guacamole, Salsa and Reduced-Fat Sour Cream. Rolled Chicken Tacos are available in a 2-PACK, 4-PACK or DUO 12-PACK.
Jack In The Box -their menu absolutely baffles me. I have about 5 go to choices on the Jack In The Box menu that never let me down, but you can literally get just about ANYTHING terrible for the body you can imagine to eat in your car, and never look back. For the Holiday season the JITB team have really spiced it up for those who need a kick to their bah hum bug day- they bring us the Spicy Sriracha Burger! A beef hamburger with hickory smoked bacon, sliced jalapeños, Swiss-style cheese, cool shredded lettuce and sliced tomatoes with new spicy, creamy Sriracha sauce all on their signature toasted sourdough bread… Or so they claim on their site. All I’m saying is, you had better super size your diet coke while eating this 691 calorie mouth burner. It is juicy, but if you are not a huge fan of flaming hot cheetos, topping your eggs with tapatio, or generally LOVE spice in your meals then stay away! If you like heat and welcome the flame- get on board because the Spicy Sriracha burger is on fire! Get it while you can-
The home of the Frosty Freeze- enough said! They have a limited time treat for anyone who loves mushrooms and bacon –The Bacon Portabella Melt on Brioche! There is only one Bacon Portabella Melt. It’s 1/4 pound of hot and juicy beef, crisp bacon, and rich portabellas in a melty cheddar sauce on a soft, warm brioche bun. Hurry, a sandwich this crave-able is only available for a limited time.
Now if you thought I was going to leave out America’s most coveted and infamous fast food chain, well you were wrong. However good luck trying to find this item at your local Micky D’s. The famous Holiday Pie from Mcdonalds is 270 calories and appears to look like a birthday cake, and tastes like heaven in cardboard. Mcdonalds brought this to delight to the world for the first time in 2013, and only limited locations have this limited time only delight. The Holiday pie is a flaky pie crust, glazed with sugar, topped with rainbow sprinkles, and filled with a vanilla custard. It looks like you are ordering a traditional apple pie from the outside, but when you look inside the box you see what looks like a cross between an apple pie and a pop tart. It is delicious, and would go down perfect with a glass of milk. So I am going to speak from my experience of eating this holiday treat, and tell you that you should pull into your local McDonalds and see if this is on the menu- if you find it buy as many as you can and drive! Find one as fast as you can, or better yet once you find one, give it to someone as a holiday present- they will thank you for many holiday seasons to come.
