Santa Monica has done it again, not only has it recently brought Brilliantshine to the beach locales, it now brings Cadet, a French inspired restaurant and bar from Jeff Weinstein. Many know Weinstein as the genius who brought the masses The Counter. At Cadet the service is professional yet unwaveringly personable with consistency, efficiency, and informative but never without a sense of humor. Expect good music softened by gregarious voices, a table full of food and drink, and feeling like the welcomed guest in one’s home. Cadet is a casual neighborhood restaurant whose menu and space are centered by its glowing hearth and wood fire grill, drawing influence from the rustic style of French countryside cooking and local ingredient driven fare. Nicole Gordon Studio utilized mismatched chairs, exposed brick, and comfy round banquettes revealing an old and new bit of France for their patrons.

Weinstein appointed previous executive chef of The Hart + Hunter, Kris Tominaga to command Cadet’s kitchen. The food and service revolve around the warmth of old world home traditions combined with the sensibilities of casual modern eateries Log piles reveal the semi-open wood-fired grill that will warm the place up, as well as cook up the bulk of the menu, from clay pot octopus and head-on shrimp basted with chive butter to pork collar and dungeness crab.

If you are not looking to sit down and have dinner, sit at Cadet’s counter bar where beverages maintain the same ingredient driven principles and focus on classic bartending .The wine and beer lists celebrate small, quality producers from a well-tailored selection of craft beer and wine.

Cadet- opened Sunday – Thursday from 5:00pm – 10:00pm & Friday and Saturday from  5:00pm – 11:00pm.

Must Try for two!- whether you are dining out a friend, meeting for business, celebrating a loved one, or on a first date, here is what I recommend-

  2. Wood Grilled-Pork Collar, Pork Toro, Milk Braised Loin Natural Jus add Wood Roasted Bone Marrow
  3. Fried Potato Wedges , Smoked Pepper, Crème Fraiche
  4. Rabbit Boulettes, Herb Dumpling, Tendrils -Maple Cream
  5. Farro & Broccoli, Gruyere &Breab Crumbs
