Summer and Burgers go together just about as well as Burgers go with fries. In fact, May is National Hamburger month and May 28th is National Hamburger Day. To celebrate the unofficial start of burger season we’re counting down our top 5 best LA burgers.

Del Frisco’s Grille – With locations in Santa Monica and Pasadena Del Frisco’s is primarily known as a steakhouse but don’t underestimate how serious they are about their burgers.  The Grille Prime Cheeseburger features double patties, choice of cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickle, their signature sloppy sauce and is served with fries. This is a serious burger so bring two hands (possibly a bib) and set your pretentions aside. In honor of National Burger Month both locations will feature custom burgers. Santa Monica, will feature the “Hipster Jam Burger,” which is inspired by culinary trends and regional. Pasadena will feature the “Chile Verde Burger,” which is inspired by Chef Angel Flores’ Mexican heritage and family recipes passed down for generations.

Oinkster –  To say that this Eagle Rock staple, that recently added a location in Hollywood, has a passion for burgers would be a huge understatement.  They are gearing up for their 5th Annual Burger Week starting June 1st , where everyday for 7 days they will be unveiling a new one day only burger.  With Burger Week comes the Burger Challenge, to sample each of the 7 burgers, those who succeed are crowned BurgerLords.  This year’s Burger Week selections in order of release are: The Klogger, Atomic hot pepper burger, Bet it all on Black Garlic burger, The Ulti-meatum burger, Red Castle Sliders, The Big Kahuna burger, and The Krabby Patty.  You can get all the details on these incredible creations thanks to the LA Times by clicking this link: http://www.tinyurl.com/burgerweek15

The Apple Pan – Opened in 1947, The Apple Pan is one of LA’s oldest continually operating restaurants and famous for their burgers and apple pies served with vanilla ice cream.  They only have two choices the Steakburger and the Hickory Burger and they are both simple perfection, when combined with fries and a slice of pie you instantly understand why people have been coming back for more for over 68 years.

Plan Check Kitchen + Bar – The brainchild of Chef Ernesto Uchimura, somewhat of a burger legend and former Executive Chef at Umami Burger, the Plan Check Burger or PCB is a modern spin on the classic burger. Served with a 6oz patty, americanized dashi cheese, ketchup leather, schmaltz onions, and mixed pickles, all in perfect proportion to each other and served on a crunch bun, this burger is close to perfection. For those a little more daring try the Chef’s Favorite Burger which comes with the same 6oz patty, cheese two ways, bacon two ways, ketchup lather, sunny fried egg, and hot sauce served on a crunch bun.

In-N-Out Burger – Founded a year after The Apple Pan in 1948, in nearby Baldwin Park, this family owned business has grown to 300 locations and employs over 18,000 staff.  Famous for their Double-Double, Animal Style fries, and secret menu offerings In-N-Out Burger has become a cultural phenomenon in Southern California.  If you live anywhere in the southwestern United States and somehow have managed to go this long with out having a Double-Double with grilled onions you should drop whatever your doing and run out and get one now. You will thank me later.
